Christmas Outreach 2012

We continue to reach our community in practical ways, our feeding scheme feeds up to 800 children in underprivileged schools within the Phoenix area, along with our widows and senior citizens programme and missions to Monzi (Northern KZN), Mozambique, Zimbabwe and India, too mention a few, we will, and are, making a difference in the lives of many people.

The “High Chaparral” is a community just behind the White House Shopping complex in Phoenix, Durban.  As a church we have been working in this community for quite sometime, this outreach is just one of the year-round programmes we do in this area.  We have an in-depth understanding of the social and spiritual problems this community face.  Having conducted an analysis of the needs of the community, by going door-to-door and speaking to each household, we have established the following:

  • approximately 400 people live in abject poverty
  • most of the homes are in a state of disrepair (in 2013 we are planning a repair and maintenance of these homes as well as the communal areas)
  • a large percentage of households do not eat on a daily basis (our next aim is to have a daily soup kitchen for the poorest people)

These are just some of the problems they face daily.

We firmly believe that through the caring of people who give of their time, resources or offer financial support this community will be restored.

The main issues this community is battling with are the effects of:

  • Drugs - this area is a haven for drug dealers with a large number of the community are bound in drug addiction
  • Alcoholism
  • Child-headed households
  • High rate of unemployment

Gateway will be holding crusades and feeding the community every day from the 13th to 15th of December 2012.

We rely on the generosity of individuals and businesses for support.  Without the assistance of community-minded individuals just like you, we wouldn't be able to serve those in our community each year.

We have set a budget of +- R70,000.00 to fund this outreach (of course, the more we have available the more we can do) and ask for support in the following ways:

  • Make a one-off donation to the overall budget, or specify a specific item you would like to cover.
  • Sponsor the equipment required: some of the equipment we require for this outreach is a marquee, sound equipment, a stage; others are listed in the attached table.
  • Sponsor or donate food we are providing 6 meals to the community and anticipate up to 400 people for the evening meals
    • Thursday lunch after the women’s meeting (+- 100)
    • Thursday supper (+- 400)
    • Friday lunch after the men’s meeting (+- 75)
    • Friday supper (+- 400)
    • Saturday lunch during the children’s fun day (+- 400)
    • Saturday supper (+- 400)

If you wish to donate equipment, food or any other items, we will be happy to pick up your donation.

Your generosity will make a difference in our community by allowing us to continue in our work.  Remember that every donation makes a difference, regardless of size.

I hope that you will consider helping GATEWAY CHURCH to develop this community.  Thank you in advance for your support!

God bless

Pastor Speedy Kisten

Welcome to Gateway Church

We are a dynamic and diverse, multi-racial family in Christ, who believe in the principle of “each one - reach one” (what you are taught you should be able to teach to others effectively).

We believe that all Christians are disciples who should be equipped correctly to disciple others.  God has already prepared and purposed our “good works” when we gave our lives to serve Christ, we need simply to step into being obedient and fulfilling them.

“For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 2:10.
